There are two main competitions that take place in the public square of the hosting city: the Main Competition, where the short films of filmmakers coming from different countries have been presented, and the Weekly Competition, where the filmmakers that shoot films in each location of the travelling campus are the key players.

Main Competition: regulation and awards

It’s the main official International Competition of short films and documentaries of the festival. The participation in the competition is totally free and to submit your film it’s necessary to fill the entry form by April, 30th 2020. The maximum duration for the film is 25 minutes.

Every day the people of the audience has the chance to see the screenings of the short films in competition and expresses its opinion through the voting forms distributed by the staff and they award the winner. So, the chosen film, every 2 days of screenings, will have access to the semifinal and then the final.

The Winner of the Main Competition, chosen by the popular jury, will obtain the Golden Epeius.

During the Ceremony Award, a technical jury formed by experts in film and cinema, will award the following prizes:

  • Best Film
  • Best Director
  • Best Actor
  • Best Script
  • Best cinematography
  • Best Editing
  • Best Soundtrack / Score

 

Weekly Competition: regulation and awards
It’s the competition opened to all the filmmakers that participate in the Campus: the soul of CinemadaMare! It takes place on the last night of the city that hosts the event. During every stop of the festival, the filmmakers shoot short films, collaborating in International crews and including, involving the local people in the production and in the sets.

All the filmmakers that participate to CinemadaMare take part in the Weekly Competition as each week they will have to realise films together with their collegues coming from all over the world, forming international crews and involving the local filmmakers in films’ shooting and production, letting them cover various roles: extras, actors, assistants director etc.
In all those years, CinemadaMare has produced more than 1300 films, flanking the filmmakers in all the production phases, acting as a bridge to let them get in touch with local communities.

At the very beginning of each week, the staff arranges the production meeting and comunicates the guidelines, that the troupes will have to follow to produce movies, and the day of the final screening.

Films admitted to the Weekly Competition must have been realized by CinemadaMare’s registered filmmakers, must have been shot in the ongoing stop-over, must last at least 12 minutes (intro and interview excluded-they will be consigned by the staff) and be delivered according to the deadlines specified in the regulation, usually the day of the Weekly, within 6pm.

Weekly Competition screenings are free, as all CinemadaMare’s activities, and they are presented by the Director and the staff, together with short movies’ directors and cast (artistic and technical).

Hundreds of people, among locals, filmmakers and cinema experts, participate to the screenings enthusiastically, admiring the works of young authors able to promote film tourism: indeed, those living in the cities that host CinemadaMare are able to recognise the most famous glimpses of their cities, that are enhanced in the various short movies. These films are at the municipal authority’s disposal in order to be used as advertising spots or any other promotional and touristic purpose.

In the same way, filmmakers that have realized these films at CinemadaMare, submit them to different festivals all over the world and that gives them the chance to spread their short movies internationally. In this way, people around the world start to know some Italian landscapes, often unknown to foreigns.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WEEKLY COMPETITION

It’s necessary to fill the submission form to take part in the travelling campus and to shoot the films during the tour in Italy. The film concurring in the Weekly Competition must have the following characteristics:

  • They have to be realized by the filmmakers that have been applied for CinemadaMare and they have to be present in the town
  • They could be maximum duration of 12 minutes (introduction and intervie included, to be brought to the staff)
  • They have to be delivered by the deadline indicated in the regulation

At the beginning of the week, the staff set a production meeting where the guidelines of the crews need to be respected for the production of the films.

The filmmakers themselves are the people who will assign the award for Best Film, through the voting forms, distributed by the staff.
The staff will evaluate and assign the other awards:

  • Best Director
  • Best Actor
  • Best Script
  • Best cinematography
  • Best Editing
  • Best Soundtrack / Score

For both the competitions, CinemadaMare realizes a real open air show for the local audience.

CinemadaMare is a travelling film campus able to host filmmakes, students and professionals in the film industry and it has been travelling across Italy for 17 years from north to south in the summer time.

Today Cinemadamare travels for more than 5.000 km every year to take cinema in the Italian squares.
